QFK: Why did you write your first book?

(QFK) Questions from Kids is a series of questions Abigail has gotten while speaking at school visits or elsewhere from kids. Check out the series to see insightful questions asked from children.

Why did you write your first book?

Writing my first book was a pretty fast decision. I saw an opportunity to learn how to self publish a book. I knew that this was my chance to make that a reality.

Growing up I didn’t see characters who were struggling to read like I was. As a dyslexic, I was never reading as quick or well as my peers. I wrote a character that I wish I read in school.

I never imagined myself being an author and honestly if you asked pretty much anyone I grew up with I’m sure they would say the same thing. NO ONE saw this coming, including myself. However it has been the best curveball in my life to-date.

I love the impact that books can have on people’s lives. While speaking at schools, I will have students share that they are like Darcy or Anthony from my books. That melts my heart and makes all the hard work as an author worth it!
